Symposia on the Bible

Since 1994, the Research Group has jointly sponsored a series of Annual Symposia on "The Transmission of the Bible," organized by Mildred Budny and held at various centers in turn.

  • "The Bible and the Visual Arts," co-sponsored by the Art History Department of Barnard College and Columbia University, and held at Barnard College in New York City in April 1995.

  • "The Carolingian Bible and Its Impact," co-sponsored by the Department of Art and Archaeology, the Program in Medieval Studies, the Index of Christian Art, and Late-Antique Studies of Princeton University, and held at Princeton University in April 1996.

  • "The Late-Antique Bible and Its Impact," co-sponsored by the Medieval Studies Program and Douglass College of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, and held at Douglass College in New Brunswick in March 1997.

  • "The Bible and The Liturgy," co-sponsored by the Center for Medieval Studies of Fordham University, the Jesuit University of New York; The Scriptorium: Center for Christian Antiquities of Grand Haven, Michigan; and both the Department of Art and Archaeology and the Index of Christian Art of Princeton University, and held at the Lincoln Center Campus of Fordham University in April 1998.

  • "The Apocalypse in Word and Image," co-sponsored by the Index of Christian Art, Late-Antique Studies, and the Department of Art and Archaeology of Princeton University, and held at Princeton University in April 1999.

  • "Canterbury and the Bible," co-sponsored by Douglass College and Rutgers University, the Index of Christian Art of Princeton University, and H.P. Kraus, Inc., of New York, and held at Douglass College in March 2000.
